London Congestion Charge: What PCO Drivers Need to Know
If you're a
private hire driver, you're likely aware that PCO cars are no longer exempt
from paying the London Congestion Charge when driving through Central London.
To help you optimize your earnings, the Capital Hire team has created a
detailed guide to understanding the London Congestion Charge, how it works, and
if you're affected. This guide covers everything from operating hours and fees
to the types of vehicles impacted, ensuring you're well-informed.
What is
the Congestion Charge?
The
Congestion Charge was introduced in 2003 by Transport for London (TfL) to
manage and reduce traffic congestion in Central London.
How Much
is the Congestion Charge?
You must pay
a daily fee of £15 if paid in advance or on the day of travel. If paid by
midnight of the third day following your trip, the fee increases to £17.50.
This charge allows unlimited entry, exit, and travel within the congestion zone
for that day. Failing to pay the charge within the deadline will result in a
Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) of £160, which can be reduced to £80 if settled
within 14 days.

as the Kia e-Niro and MG)
- Vehicles with 9 or more seats
- Vehicles used by individuals with
disabilities that are exempt from vehicle tax
